Board of Governors

The Board of Governors at ABC have 2 main roles to play. That of strategic direction and of critical friend.

The strategic role: The school board has a strategic role in the development of the school but does not become involved in day-to-day management issues – that is the role of the Principal. Members are there to provide a strategic view and help to set and maintain the broad framework within which the Principal and the staff should run the school.

Key areas:
Aims, objectives and values of the school,

1. Adopt and review policies in support of achieving aims, objectives and
2. values,
3. Help set targets for achieving the aims and objectives,
4. Review and monitor progress towards achieving the aims and objectives.

The role of the critical friend: The role of the critical friend is key to success in our school. The Board acting as critical friend entails providing the Principal with support, advice and information but also challenge where appropriate. The Board helps to monitor and evaluate the school’s effectiveness.
